    Drumheller bull snake

While on a training camp, we took our Scouts and Cub Scouts off on a hike and spotted this handsome critter.

A couple of the cubs (you know, the ones who don't listen when you say "leave it alone"?) half-flushed it out of the bush after I identified that it wasn't a rattlesnake, so I caught it and plopped it down in some cover further from where our group was exploring.

This was outside of Drumheller (Alberta) so, I'm assuming it's a regular bull snake rather than a Great Basin gopher (which we do have next door, over in B.C.)
It was kind of exciting, as with (comparatively) so few snake species here in Canada, all I've ever seen or caught up to now have been small garters
