Weird noise?
Sometimes when my girl is around my neck I can hear her make a weird wheeze/whistle. Just long enough for one breath, and then gone. Is this normal or signs of a respiratory issue? Please forgive my question, I'm a new snake owner and have only had her a week. She was not kept in the best conditions before we got her. I just want to take her to the vet if it is signs of a problem arising. Thank you!

Possible beginning, I believe. Someone else better than me will have to respond. Have you seen any fluid around the nose/mouth/head?

Like Rock said ... Do you see bubbles or extra mucus? Snakes can make a sound and still be healthy as a horse.. Some make that noise now and then because of the shape of a nose cavity or a piece of shed skin stuck in their nostril.

Re: Weird noise?
I have not seen any bubbles or mucous, but I will keep an eye out for it and take her to a vet if I see any. I called around today and lined one up just in case. Thank you for your reply!

Re: Weird noise?
No bubbles or mucous. She did just shed about 4 days ago, so maybe that's the case? I was told snakes should never ever make ANY noise, but obviously that person didn't really know what they were talking about. Thank you so much for your reply! I'm not panicking quite so much now.

Yup thats wrong hahaha.. You should hear the loud Weez that comes out of my Burm the week before he sheds.. If someone was new to him they would think it was a Full Blown Respiratory infection... People think a Hiss is like what a Cat will do, nothing like that...for a snakes its a long drawn out exhale that may or may not have other sounds along with it...

Ha, you would think I squeezed my BP from time to time when I pick her up. She wants to hiss but it comes out sounding like the air leaving a balloon when she realizes she's coming out and stops being grumpy.

Re: Weird noise?
This makes me feel a lot better, knowing it could be something totally natural.

I would keep an eye on the glass of the enclosure and the water dish or any other surfaces. If there are streaks on the glass, etc... that could be discharge from the snake as well. Just something to keep an eye on. If you see this, plus hear the wheezing, then a vet appointment wouldn't be a bad idea.

Good call. Not something I had considered but it makes perfect sense.
