Smart to go with a tub first no matter what you choose. IMO

Tubs are much better at keeping the humidity levels up than glass with screen tops. Plus, much cheaper, so when you change sizes no problem. A lot of people/breeders only use tubs. Just not as much fun for display purposes.

Edit: the cool thing is that the person i know does cabinets happens to be my mothers exbf....so i can prolly get him to make something to fit a gigantic tank lol

That's great and I agree on liking to watch the snake too.

If you can keep the basic necessities consistent (humidity/temps) and provide hides for your snake you can probably use whichever enclosure you like best (glass/plastic). I think you'll find that most people with adult ball pythons who want a big display case max out around a 4'x2'x12"-14" enclosure. Maybe 4x2x2 as well with a ledge in the back. Height isn't much of a priority with BPs as they get older so an enclosure much smaller than you think seems to work out just fine. I think some people might even think a 4x2 is too large depending on the size of the BP.

Re: Looking for next cage up ideas!

I have tried with my ball python, my dumeril's boa, and the ball python at the wildlife center I volunteer at to offer different types of hides at different points. I was attempting to get them to like the fake rock cave type ones before I gave in and got them the RBI ones. They'll use them, but there's a distinct difference in their acceptance and comfort with them vs the reptile basics hides. They love those ugly black boxes. If I were you, I'd just give in and shove some fake vines on top to make it look nicer. The only other thing that my ball python liked as well was a cardboard cracker box I used for him when he was a baby until he decided to soak them one day.

The RBI hides (and the cracker boxes) were the only ones out of all the ones I tried, including a couple homemade ones, that they moved into right away. The rest they just kind of stared at for a while or roamed around ignoring before giving in.

Is this the AP-T8? I was originally considering the T3 (36x24x12), never thought I'd need to go up to a 4' cage with a BP, and she's certainly nowhere near that size now, but is outgrowing the 10gal aquarium we've kept her in until the time came for a purpose-designed enclosure.

    Thoughts on a 36" vs 48" for a BP?

Looking for next cage up ideas!

The T3 costs more than the T8. Unless you're dealing with space limitations, get the extra space for less money! Most BPs are fine in half of a T8, but usually there's no problem giving them more room.
