    Heat pad and glass

    Hi Everyone,

I am building a custom cage for my ball pythons (I will post pictures after ill finish) and I have a question regarding the under tank heater.

Im going to use this heater with a regular glass that I will custom cut by home depot.

Do you guys think that the glass will break because of the heat or no?

Would like to hear your opinion.

    Thank you

No, it won't as long as you have the heat pad on a thermostat.

Why are you making the bottom of the tank glass? Glass is a poor choice for a ball python enclosure. It doesn't retain heat very well at all. PVC or properly sealed wood would be much better.

    Thank you

Can I stick the heat pad to pvc?
    The pvc will not melt?

    Thank you

I thought I can only stick it to glass.

No the pvc will definitely not melt.. your pad should stay under 100 degrees so it's not hot enough to melt the plastic

you need a thermostat, no matter what you stick them to, not just a thermometer. I use these mats and they get roasting hot, enough to seriously burn your beloved pet, if they are not plugged into and controlled by a thermostat.

Think about it........ Do you have a problem holding glass or plastics melting when you hold them??
You shouldn't with a regulated UTH either.

    Re: Heat pad and glass

Glass cut by home depot put on the inside if a enclosure will be razor sharp and will cut the heck out of a exploring snake. Ive seen terrible pictures on here after people have a idea but lacked knowledge and their Snakes get split wide open by sharp plastic and Pet Store decorations let alone glass from a chain store. ... If you must do it your way go with a RHP from Pro Products. It will cost between $80-$150 depending on the size of enclosure and is safe for you, your home and a snake.
