Toads!!! This Forum section looked lonely :)

Well it is summer time and all the reptiles are about. I like to take wildlife photos any chance I get so when they actually come out looking decent I figure why not post them here(ha ha...ie. the ribbon snake, the lizard, now Toads!)I spotted these two toad tonight and took some pics. I think they turned out great. Here they are:

There were two together I wished the little one was not so shy....awesome red color!

The larger toad stayed out for some nice close ups though.

Hope you guys like...I know toad are really common...but I still like them

I love toads. I used to keep 10+ at a time when I was younger.

There is a snail shell in the lower right of your first pic.

I used to catch toad and frogs all the time when I was a kid...more than anything else. I thought about trying to keep them but I did not want to take any out the wild and did not want to listen to any croaking;D

Ya...I saw that snail shell there...if you look close you can see the snail coming out of the snail shell

    Oh yeah, I see.

I took many things out of the wild in my younger years. lol Toads mostly.. and leopard frogs, a couple bullfrogs, turtles, fish, crayfish.. etc etc. Basically whatever moved that wasn't a bug (and a few of those too)

I was exactly the same way....toads, leopard frogs, and anoles were my favorites. I would even go for grasshoppers, crickets and a few other bugs ha...but not spiders or roaches... I also tried to avoid most snakes too....did not want to risk picking up something poisonous...ha ha....but there were a few close call when my curiosity got the best of me

We always got crayfish and salamanders!! The occasional grasshoppers and crickets, which we fed to my mom's tartantulas (yeah I know that's not good, but it was a long time ago). Oh and fireflies!!! My kids love those.

Oh yeah, lots of fireflies (I always call them lightning bugs though). I also went for the grasshoppers, and other hopper bugs.. butterflies, dragon and damselflies (my favorites!) garden snails, slugs, potato bugs (roly polys), millipedes, and whatever other cool things took up residence under logs and rocks.

I found a black salamander with blue spots once. It was really cool.

I used to be fortunate enough to get to collect caterpillars in a state reserve. I worked for a doctoral student in college. I got to see black rat snakes, all sorts of frogs, and I once found a purple grasshopper. (it was so cool) The best part was that the land was protected so that few people ever got to go there. It was full of wildlife. Absolutely wonderful. I even got to hear the whooping cranes (endangered species) during mating season, and yes there is a very good reason they are called whooping.
