    Question First BP.

    I am so excited!!!!

First I got everything for my 20 gal. terrarium, still waiting for my herpkeeper pro. Set it up, and played with temp and humidity until everything was perfect. Temps going from 93 to 75 from hot to cold side, humidity on 55% to 66%.

Upload pics later. So I couldn't wait for a whole month for the herpkeeper and decided to go on a manual setup and bought my Kira!!! (that's her name) A spider BP supposedly, you'll judge that later with the pics.

She is so cute and curious and delicate and sometimes clumsy when I'm handling her, BUT when I put her on the tank she went for a walk arround, got for a min into the watter bowl, then she adventured into the cold side hide, then went to the hot side hide. She curled up tight in there on a corner and haven't moved since, it's been 1 night and 1 day.

I grabbed her just to see she was still alive and she was pretty kind of happy that I hold her, put her back in her tank and rushed to the same spot and didn't moved for the rest of the day.

    Is that good? normal? bad?

Yes, she found a spot she likes and has camped out there. You'll find BPs are not very active. Nothing unusual about a BP spending days at a time in a comfortable hide. Lots of activity would indicate that the BP has not found a spot she likes.

give these a read for more insight into BP care and behavior

Does she have a hide? Is she a baby? How long have you had her for? It's good that you have the temperatures all figured out beforehand, I struggled with them and was still adjusting them when mine arrived.

Yes she's a baby, I've had her for 2 days and she has 2 hides, one cool Mayan temple (where she pass all day and night) and another sort of hollow structure that go along with the scenery. Each on every side of the tank.

    Red face Re: First BP.

Here is the set up, with a monsoon rs400, a couple plastic plants, a couple plastic hides (the left is her favorite) and a large vine, a 75W zoomed reptiles baskin lamp (left), and a 25W zoomed UVB bulb (right), coconut fiber and ultra fine tree bark. At the back and left side is a corner water pot.

    And now... Kira!!!

After a fast glimpse on the outside:

There she goes back to her favorite spot in the whole world...

    Re: First BP.

I set the monsoon to spray for a second every 20 min. and thats how i got to keep the tank between 55% and 65% of the humidity but this morning I got home from work I see the tank is fully soaked. But if I stop the spray for an hr. the humidity levels drop to 30%.

I don't understand that, probably I got the probes on a wrong spot of the cage? or the sensor is malfunctioning somehow? Any expert comment or advise plz!!!

For now I'll try covering part of the top.
