    Update on Punkin

Well tonight was feeding night for Baby our other bp and as always she gobbled down her mouse and this week actually took a second one (some weeks it's one, some weeks it's two....she sets the pace that way).

We had purchased extra mice with Punkin coming and figured we'd offer her one even tho she's new to us but she came from a pretty stable home and generally eats on Saturday night so why not try.

Well to our surprise and joy she nailed that big ole adult male mouse like a pro! She's not quite as powerful when she hits her mouse as Baby-the-Piggy is but as long as she eats all is good. We'll offer her multiple mice as time goes by as she is a bit thin for her length (her previous owners didn't realize it was okay to offer more than one mouse a week as the snake grew up).\

So as I sit here typing away both our "girls" (sure hope they are girls LOL) are curled up in their respect tubs, with nice mousey lumps enjoying this warm weather and their full bellies.

Can't tell you how happy we are! Two eating snakes is a very good thing LOL.

    Re: Update on Punkin

That's great! One less thing to have to worry about. I'm sure Punkin will be packing on the grams very soon. Dandylion was the same way when I got her, except all they fed her was pinkies and fuzzies at almost 9 months old. She's just started taking two mice, but she has a very good feeding response...no zombie mouse dance required (except taking of first second helping). Actually it was feeding night here too and both ate with extreme enthusiasm.

Congrats on your first successful feed with her! Now onto stressing about her upcoming shed and bms!

    Re: Update on Punkin

Actually just had a quick look at Punkin who seems to be digesting that large mouse quite well. Fed Friday night and as of this morning there's not a discernable "lump" just a nice thickening of her lower body. We were concerned about offering her food so quickly but she took it without fuss or much encouragement.

Yes now on to her first shed with us. She does seem to have a slight wrinkling on one eye so I'm assuming this is a retained eyecap from her last shed tho that eye seems pretty clear not clouded over greatly. We'll watch that closely. Her skin feels very rough compared to Baby's and is very dull/washed out looking. Her previous owners said it's been quite awhile since she last shed so perhaps if we get a bit of growth on her she can get rid of this old skin for some nicer new stuff. Her scarring is pretty minimal (unless you look for it, it's not really apparent) but you can see it was likely a cat claw that did it. Once she's shed we'll double check it closely but it appears fully healed and was from some months back.

All in all we're quite happy we took her in. She was calm about being examined this morning which is always nice.

If only we had a digi cam to post pics of them....darn car just had to break down again this week! LOL
