Without accurate lineage information you never know with carpets. There's so many crosses that it's almost impossible to know the exact ssp based solely on appearances. Yours looks like it has some coastal and/or IJ influences but again that's just a guess. It's a beautiful carpet in any event.

My vote is coastal mutt. Like El-Ziggy said, unless you find the breeder, you are more or less going to have go by what the seller says if you believe him or just call him a 'mutt'. And there is nothing wrong with mutts. One of my favorites is my 7' normal bci girl who I got as an 18" danger noodle from my local mom and pop shop. She is now 7' and the sweetest snake. Everyone loves Rosey when they meet her

Just be happy your carpet isn't high strung. Allison my JCP can go from sweetie to terror in about 0.0003 secs haha.

thanks for the responses, i was more just worried about his maximum size, we are shopping for a new enclosure and don't want it to be to small if he does hit full grown coastal size.

he is super docile and likes to explore, so i am very happy with his temperament. his previous owner was feeding him hopper mice until we got him. now he is on medium rats, worried it may have stunted his growth a bit.

His growth doesn't look very stunted in those pics rat . Even the largest coastal can be kept in a 6ft enclosure. I think a majority of them can live comfortably in a 4x2x2. My coastal is about 5.5 ft now and he's in a 40g tank with plenty of room. He's scheduled to move into his 4x2 later this year. My 7.5 ft bull snake is in a 4x2 as well.

    Welcome to the forum Ratnest.

That is a nice looking Carpet. Your description sounds about right. But as Ziggy and Sauzo mentioned, you just don't know 100% without the lineage.

Most of the growth is past now, but he will continue to grow at a slower rate.

These are pics to help give you an idea of snake size in their enclosures.

This is Etta, a 6 ft 3 year old Coastal in a 4x2x2. She is similar in size to yours.

These 6x2.5x18 " house Lizzy on the bottom. She is a 7 year old Coastal at close to 8 feet long.
The middle cage houses Mack, a 3 year old Coastal at 7 feet long.

I wish my 6 foot cages were 2 feet tall because Carpets will make use of it and climb. But I do have shelves for them and I let them out to play often.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Please excuse the spelling in my posts. Auto-Correct is my worst enema.
