Help Identifying Python Breed
I have taken over taking care for this guy. He and a Ball Python came to the house back when one of the kids friends went to boot camp. Well that's been over three years ago and the kids have also moved out and now I'm trying to get everything setup correctly and take care of them the way the deserve to be taken care of. They told the kids that it was a reticulated but there is no way, the markings don't match. He can be a bit snappy when you get need the lid and strike the lid. I started last week to look online to try to identify what he was and the closest I could find with the markings was either a spotted or a rough-scaled (but the I don't think the scales match and doesn't look like front facing eyes). Can someone help, was originally going to find a home from him but I think I'll keep him and get him used to be held. Paper towel roll trick worked today when I was cleaning the cage. Let him try to strike the roll then pet him with it till he relaxes, then was able to pick him right up without any stress.
Thanks Scott...

I am far form a expert on anything but ball pythons (and in no way a expert there either) but i am fairly certain that is a carpet python again tho i have never kept one so i may be wrong
Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.

Coastal carpet python? It is a carpet python though.

I'd be inclined to say a coastal carpet but it looks small for a 3+ year old animal.

Maybe a carpet python mutt? 100% sure that's not a retic lol. Regardless good looking snake and carpets are awesome. I'm sure with proper husbandry and regular handling he will tame down nicely.

Carpet pythons types have been so intercrossed over the years. Unless you purchase from a breeder that can identify the parents lineage, it is really just a guess for anybody.....they can only just say that it is a carpet python...your exact type is up in the air.
Fun snakes regardless.

Thanks everyone, that helped so much. I had no idea of the number of species till I got online and started to try to identify the markings.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.
1.2 Coastal Carpet Pythons
Mack The Knife, 2013
Lizzy, 2010
Etta, 2013
1.1 Jungle Carpet Pythons
Esmarelda , 2014
Sundance, 2012
2.0 Common BI Boas, Punch, 2005; Butch, age?
0.1 Normal Ball Python, Elvira, 2001
0.1 Olive (Aussie) Python, Olivia, 2017
Please excuse the spelling in my posts. Auto-Correct is my worst enema.
