    Admit it. It’s cool.

i think we all think BP’s and many other snakes are cute, have cool colors and patterns, eyes, etc. we all agree that snakes have remarkable beauty. we are also fascinated by their shape, how they move, how they have survived millions of years without legs, etc. etc. there's lotsa reasons why we like and keep them.

But don’t you think it’s really cool that they constrict and swallow their prey whole? i think it’s amazing and a big appeal of snake ownership. Admit it, you think it’s cool too. i think it’s cool that you think it’s cool.

Edit: i just watched a vid of a snake eating live prey and it inspired me to write this thread. it's instinct, strike and wrap brought me back to when i was a kid and saw my 4th grade teacher's Corn Snake eat a live mice. my first thought was - whoa, that's so cool. then that set me on a journey to always admire them, learn about them and eventually own them.

Def when I was younger. The first time I watched a rat snake eat a mouse was awesome. Same thing with my larger constrictors back in the day. These days it's just maintenance to be honest. I get more satisfaction out of the fact that they are actually eating because I know I'm going to be spazzing when they start to fast.

Pretty much what Cletus said. When I was a kid, I thought it was neat but after like 25 years, it's more or less only interesting in that I pray one of my snakes doesn't derp it up and try and fold food in half like a sandwich, or eat it butt first or drag it all over the aspen to give it a nice coating lol.

In some ways I still think it's cool to watch but like Sauzo and Cletus said, after 20+ years keeping snakes it's most exciting when a fasting snake starts eating again or when you're worried about the snake making a super derp move haha. Or when your very fast and squirrelly retic with the astonishing feeding response gets way too excited at the prospect of food lol

For me it's the fascination of nature.

I like the strike and coil, particularly when hanging down from a perch. I like all the muscle definition, esp. how clear that is in a patternless snake.

Before I got interested in snakes, I came across a rather impressive internet picture (IIRC, Australia) of a big snake (probably a scrub python?) clinging to a bit of ledge on an otherwise mostly vertical rock face. It was dragging up something fairly large out of the water below.

Mostly I just think they're cosmic. I love watching how they move!

It most definitely is cool! One of many reasons why I love snakes!

    Re: Admit it. It’s cool.

Snakes fascinate me with their movement, stillness, and their mostly docile yet amazingly predatory natures. Watching them eat never gets old but it doesn't mesmerize me as much these days. After you've seen them eat a few thousand times it loses a little of it's allure.

@ Distaff- I believe I've seen the picture you're referring to,and if it's the same one, that was an Olive Python.
