    My Axolotl

I just wanted to share a pic of my axolotl. I strongly recommend these to anyone who is thinking about getting one. They are easy to keep (as long as you can keep their tank water temp 75 degrees or below, they don't like the heat). They are very active, and interactive. Mine always come up to the surface to greet me. They are very curious, love to explore their tanks. Do NOT keep them on gravel they will eat it, sand or bare tank bottom or stones too big to fit in their face.

Under a black light, he has the 'glow' gene.

    Chilling in his tank.

He's beautiful! How often do you change the water, and what kind of filter do you use? How do you regulate the temperature? I'm considering an axolotl as a cool display animal, and I've always thought they were really interesting and that I'd like to have one, but the only aquarium pet I've ever kept before was a goldfish that I had for a few years in highschool... so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to aquariums.

They are very awesome! I have a Whisper Internal filter hidden in the background that forms one of the waterfalls. I do 25% water change once a week. In the winter my house is cold so no problem. in the summer I put a fan on top of the tank and add ice to the water on hot days. They need very low current in their water or it damages their gills. All in all they are easy to keep. Most people keep them in full tanks, I like having the moss and plants but it's not needed. They jump so you need a top. They will also eat each other so if you want more than one you have to keep them separated when they are small and only introduce them after they are at least six inches long.

Thanks guys! My guy is about 7-8 inches and he's four year old but I've seen some up to 14! Not sure why some grow so huge.
