    Question Baby diet

My cresties were hatched in early May and are eating great, but I took to the habit of offering them crickets everyday (sprinkled with calcium and reptivite, only one containing D3) and then leaving baby food with the CGD mixed in. They have become almost complete carnivores. Very rarely do I see the baby food touched and I am offering them all fruit since they are eating so many crickets. I have four babies and I feed each in a separate small enclosure to ensure each is eating well (which they are).

I am wondering if it is okay for them to be on a almost purely carnivorous diet? Also, how often should I be sprinkling the crickets with calcium and how often with reptivite? I know the adulst need the vitamins less... I thought about adding the CGD to the mix when I sprinkle the crickets as well.

And all you BP owners thought you had the market cornered on OCD!!

    Re: Baby diet

you're doing fine! my cresteds eat mainly crickets, they only get babyfood once a week. babies are on the diet until big enough for small crickets. i dust lightly before each feeding, lightly (don't turn the crickets into ghosts) lol. i keep a little tub/rubbermaid container with the dust in it and add crickets and shake. i've noticed faster growth on crickets. i make the diet a little more soupy than the directions, i add a spoon or two more water.

Im with you!! Pretty much exactly what I do.. Cant emphasise enough on making the diet thin as it will turn to crested gecko hard candy in a short while...

    Re: Baby diet

Those crickets sound like a pain in the tush to me. So for now I'll stick to my frozen rodents!! I haven't accidently thawed any out for dinner yet, so I figure I'm doing good

Can you stick the stuff in a water bottle and stick it on the side of the cage, or am I just really weird for thinking about that? Ok, maybe I'm just weird.

    Re: Baby diet

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Do you mix the CGD with babyfood or by itself while you are making it watery?? I kinda figured out the CGD hard candy after the first night and scraping the extra off with a knife from their dish!!

    Re: Baby diet

i don't mix the diet with babyfood. babyfood is a once a week treat by itself.

i highly doubt the bottle thing would work with cresteds, might be worth a try though. lol
