    Pairing conditions

So i have my snakes in custom built plexiglass tanks. I have a cool and hot hide. Theres no way my male and female will fit in one hide so just wondering when i pair them should i remove the hides or do i just leave them in there and let them navigate the tank as they wish or do i put say a large cardboard box or something for them to use as a hide while they are paired?? I can keep the room dark so they dont feel as unsecure without the hides.

    Remove the hides.
Probably going to have to cover the tank too.

    Re: Pairing conditions

You would be surprised at what they can fit into! I usually remove the hide but have seen my breeding pairs locked and under the hide at times.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

    Re: Pairing conditions

Breeding means they need to be close to one another a hide only does the opposite and allowing one animal to get away from the other.

During breeding season people using hides remove them.

I use bigger hides than most keepers... which makes it work... *shrugs* Keeps the snakes happy at least. (Bigger hides with smaller holes so it feels safe... except the pastel, who seems to prefer a bigger opening... since he periodically broke the hides I gave him... so I gave him a toolbox hide.

    Re: Pairing conditions

Took the hides out and cover the front of the tank during light cycle. For those that have responded i see the average is leave them paired three days then a few days off. Stick with that even if they dont lock in those three days? They dont seem to be too interested in each other right now lol
