2016 herping: a year in review **warning image heavy!**

It's a tiny bit early to be posting, but with the season winding down I don't see what it will hurt.
Lifers this year were hognose, Mississippi green watersnake (considered rare in my area) and Razor backed musk turtle (also considered rare in my area).

Warning again: it was a nice year for herps.

First find in February: Orange-striped ribbonsnake

As it warmed up there was a flood of reptiles.
    Hatchling Eastern River Cooter

    American Alligator

    Razorbacked musk turtle

    Plain-bellied watersnake (juvenile)

    One very full Orange-striped ribbonsnake

These I posted earlier in the year but had to include: American Alligators and Diamond-backed watersnake.

    Common musk turtle

    Mississippi mud turtle

Box turtles (one eating a mushroom and one a Muscadine)

    Red eared slider laying eggs

    Sunning Easter River Cooter

Massive common snapping turtle I removed from the road

    Cottonmouth

Mississippi green watersnake (adult and a juvenile. I found 6 total)

Numerous broad-banded watersnakes. One was missing it's tail nearly to the vent.

    Hognose

    Southern black racer

Red-belled snake (another rarer find in the middle of dendrology class too!)

This adorable Lil boxie saved from being squashed and released back across the road when it was safe.

I leave you, not with all my pictures from the year(there are just too many) but with this very angry ribbon. One because I'm sure it took forever to scroll through this and 2 because I'm sad the year is over! Thanks for looking!

It really was! Unfortunately I didn't find a Timber or a pygmy this year which were two lifers I really hunted hard for. I also didn't manage to find a live copperhead which was upsetting. In all it was a great year.

    OK some more :-)
    Broad-headed skink (adult and juvenile)

    Blanchard cricket frog

Western ratsnake in a bird nest

Diamond-backed watersnake. Top one is in shed.

A Broad-banded who thought he was hidden

    Northern green anole

Prairie lizard (he's hard to see)

    Eastern gartersnake

Three toed box turtle getting ready to hole up for winter

    Another ribbon, the cutie.

Last one. Not a herp but still cool Golden silk orb weaver

Thanks! I've already had a pretty decent start to this year, hoping the trend continues!
