    Unhappy Found my boa...

I recently bought a 1.0 Colombian Boa juvenile and received him Oct. 13th. Everything was up to par on his enclosure, although he did refuse feed so I was waiting 4-5 days to try again. Found him stone cold this morning. I should have checked earlier but I thought he was just chilling. Oh my gosh.... I contacted the breeder. Waiting to hear back. I don't know what happened. I'm super devastated.

So sorry to hear bad news.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

    1.2 Coastal Carpet Pythons
    Mack The Knife, 2013
    Lizzy, 2010
    Etta, 2013
    1.1 Jungle Carpet Pythons
    Esmarelda , 2014
    Sundance, 2012
2.0 Common BI Boas, Punch, 2005; Butch, age?
0.1 Normal Ball Python, Elvira, 2001
0.1 Olive (Aussie) Python, Olivia, 2017

Please excuse the spelling in my posts. Auto-Correct is my worst enema.

They got back to me. Would it be too late to ask for a refund or another animal? I'd feel kinda guilty about it as the snake appeared healthy when it got here.
I was so excited about this guy, he didn't even get a name yet.

    You can always ask.

But so much is out of the breeders control during the 2 weeks that you had him.

The breeder may ask for a necropsy before offering a replacement. Is it worth the $150 or more gamble to you?

I think I may have found the source. My little cousin came over two days ago and now checking over everything the UTH wasn't plugged into the thermostat, so it was off. I really can't pay until two weeks due to paying for the snake stuff myself and my parent's being tight on money. I know, not ideal, but ti's only because my horse had an expensive vet bill to take care of. I understand that. I will ask as politely and non-pushy as I can. I guess I can use this as a learning experience. Not one I'd like to use but it is what it is.

I'm sorry man. Personally, I wouldn't ask for a refund if you believe that is the case, but that's just me. If you feel ready for another, maybe the breeder would work with you on the price of another. I think that would be a more likely successful approach than asking for a refund. Best of luck to you.

Yes, after finding that out, I certainly did not ask about a refund. Even if I had to pay full price for another Boa, I would go through them again. Just waiting to hear back about that. If I do have to pay full price, I definitely think I'd wait a bit, just to put my head back on straight. Really hits you hard, even when it could have been prevented.

That sucks, sorry. I would just ask if he can work with you on the animal honestly.

Also, you could always invest in a thermostat that has a warning thing if the temperature gets to high or low. That would of made you catch that immediately.

I have a Herpstat 2 for my BP but I just got a Bean Farm/Jump Start Hygrometer while the boa was being monitored. I generally peek in every 20 minutes because I'm a worry wort but I've been in the hospital and wasn't able to do so, but yes, that would have helped, although owner error. I hope I didn't make it sound like I wanted a free animal. I told them (not in exact words) that I know it was my fault and if we could work something out for another purchase that would be great and I understand it's out of their control once the animal leaves their shop/home.
