    Question Black Milksnake Q/A

Hi. I just had a couple questions for those with experience with Black Milksnakes (Lampropeltis triangulum gaigae). They seem to be the closest critter to an Eastern Indigo without being quite as high maintenance.

From the limited husbandry info I've found online, it sounds like Black Milks are most sensitive to high temperatures (80+). If that is true, would it be beneficial to keep them in a screen-top glass terrarium style enclosure over an AP plastic cage? I would think the glass terrarium would vent excess heat much more efficiently in a warm room.

Would an adult Black Milk typically be large enough to eat small rats?

Do they typically accept moderate handling well?

Thanks in advance, and please feel free to add any info on this species or ask additional questions if you have them.

I kept mine in a 20g with with no problems. I'd say they can eat small rats but are OK on large mice. Destro has never had any sort of aggression to handling. They look so evil while in blue but their shine after is amazing!

Thanks so much for the reply! He's beautiful.

Do you happen to know any good breeders? I found splitrock reptiles, but he isn't breeding them until next year at the earliest.

Mine is in a 4x2 cage with no heat. I just keep her room temp and she does fine. She is great for handling and eats anything. She seems to love to bury herself in substrate.

Isis reptiles is where I got my girl.
