Exclamation Thinking of gettin a Burm.... help!!

I'm thinking of getting a baby burm........ but I am unsure about the temperment of these snakes.... can anyone give any advice on why I should or should not get one....... (p.s. I have the room, space, and funds to care for such a large snake of this size)......

Re: Thinking of gettin a Burm.... help!!

i have had my 2 burms since they were about 2 months old. Mine were not that bad at all. They do and will hiss alot especially when they are young. Mine still do it and they are a little over a year old. As long as you handle them at least a couple time a week they will not get out of control. When you first get one it might be a little nippy but nothing too bad. Also where in VA are you located? If you want and you are close you can come check out my pair to see what i am talking about with them hissing alot.

think about it. you HAVE to have someone there to help you for even cage maitenance. these guys are no joke. their monsters. they are known as the "gentle" giant, but mistakes do happen. before you get one, try to handle a big one. i also wanna burm, but i dont have the room, or funds for it. but they are a hand full, make sure you read up on it before you buy, and also make sure its legal where you live.

Re: Thinking of gettin a Burm.... help!!

I would also consider purchasing a male, since they don't grow as large. A female can be 10' in it's first year!

I have quite a lot of experience with burms. On average they have wonderful temperaments. Be sure to handle it a lot! I only got bit once, but it was my fault because I smelled like rat.

In my experience, burms are exceedingly lazy when you handle them. They don't tend to wrap around and grip you like boas often do.

Out of curiosity, what kinds of dimensions are we talking about here, to house a adult burm?

I'd say an 8-12' cage, depending on if it's a small male or a large female.
