    Question Gargoyle vs Crestie

I am torn, I've been looking at the crestie for so long yet the gargolye keeps creeping up in my rear view mirror begging me to pick him instead!! I'm trying to prepare for the All MD Rep show, but now cannot decide.

Is there any extra hassle to keeping Gargoyles, Vipers or Cresties? They seem to be fairly similar in upkeep. Also are their any morphs out their for gargoyles? I haven't seem to find any and I do like the color variety within the cresties. Also are their temperments similar? I know handling is important no matter what but some species seem more aggressive (i.e. tokay). One last question is how easy are gargoyles and vipers to breed versus cresties? It seems that cresties just breathe and they lay a clutch from what I've read, is it similar for gargoyles and vipers too?

    Thanks for any tips!
    Wendy

    Re: Gargoyle vs Crestie

Gargolye geckos take about 18 months to mature (if I remember corectly). It is much easier to end up with one really "buff" gargolye and one "weaker" one in a container, if the two bully and end up dropping tails. The tails will grow back, but a gecko tail seems to be rather rich in nuetrients, so if one of them is eating tails..(plus having to regrow a tail) makes a big difference.

The "morphs" for gargoyle is basically patternless (not seen as often, at least I haven't personally, but pangea reptile may not be working on that line), striped, and marbled. They also go through a slight color change..you may not have a really red baby gargoyle gecko and end up with a really nice red one later on.

Gargoyle geckos need more protein than cresteds, but the gargoyle diet is made as well.

I don't know much about viper geckos, sorry.

    Re: Gargoyle vs Crestie

gargoyles and cresteds have pretty much identical husbandry requirements. you may have to keep gargoyles separated when they are young as schlyne mentioned because they will bite off eachother's tails and possibly be more aggressive toward eachother. i have had no problems housing juvie cresteds together. i'm not sure how easy gargoyles are to breed but i imagine it would be similar to cresteds. if you want to see some reeeeeally nice gargoyle morphs go here: http://classifieds.repashy.com/showcat.php?cat=6.
