Feedback on this enclosure, please?

Not mine but my best friends. I know next to nothing about beardies but I'm concerned for hers. It's a small ~10-12g baby in a 50gal enclosure. She hand feeds pheonix worms so it doesn't have to chase down crickets.

I've told her to buy a temp gun to measure the basking temperature but she hasn't yet. I might lend her mine just so she can be sure it's the right temp.

My little dude is in a 40 gal, so the enclosure size isn't too big of a deal. I put paper on the back and sides, on the inside of the enclosure, to provide security. Putting it on the outside of the glass causes a reflection, which is no good.

She should have a long UVB light so that it's present throughput the cage, and not just in a corner. And temps should definitely be checked. The heat lamp she has is a mini, which doesn't produce a lot of heat which I found out the hard way. And CHE fixtures are great for heat, but not all beardies will bask under them, since they tend to associate light with heat (there are always exceptions. The top is also covered, which traps heat and makes it harder to create a proper gradient for thermoregulation. And temp guns and thermometers are a must. Just a few minor tweaks and that enclosure could be a great one!

What the other poster said is correct. The long UV is very important- the exact bulb is a ReptiSun 10.0 t5 or t8. t5s are stronger and better, and last longer, so that's what I would recommend.

I would definitely remove the blankets from the top... or at least get them away from the bulbs/housings. they can get very hot and the configuration in the above photo is definitely a concern for a fire hazard!

ditch the "repti carpet" and go with a proper substrate.

I agree, even though some people say its dangerous its okay as long as your friend is careful. Mine seem to really enjoy digging and living on loose substrate, its what they have in the wild too.

Agreed, PLEASE for your safety and your animals remove any flammable materials from the light housings, they get HOT!!!

This is a for real statement. My nephew set a bed on fire with one of those things.
