Great opportunity for you with pick of the litter. Sounds like you picked a god fit.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Re: Just bought a St. Bernard puppy!!

Congrats on the ultra cute new puppy. He looks like he might be a big-un. You could name him Baloo, after the humorous bear in The Jungle Book, if you want to stick with the bear theme.

So adorable and so fluffy! Bear is a name that suits him but I also second El-Ziggy and Baloo if it's too weird to have two dogs named Bear living next to each other

Hope your picnic goes well, he'll definitely be a show stopper!

Aww, he's so cute! You'll ha e your hands full, that's for sure!

In response to the bit about keeping them separated until he's neutered (boys don't get spayed ): With dogs you only have to keep them separated while the female is in heat. Which is fairly noticeable (simple way: keep them separated for a month from when you first see bleeding). It's not like with cats who can get pregnant anytime because of being induced ovulators. I'd hate for you to keep the poor dogs separated all the time unnecessarily!

Also, with giant breeds it's best to wait until the dog is full-grown to neuter, especially males. If you've decided not to breed the female, it would be best to have her spayed before she gets much older, because older unspayed females start to have a lot of trouble with their reproductive bits (just like humans, I suppose. Sigh). Breast cancer and pyometra are most common.

I just came back from the picnic, there was a 10 year old girl that was terrified of dogs and fell in love with this dog. The puppy just collapsed and slept all during the picnic and the girl couldn't stop petting him and her brothers and sisters couldn't believe that she was actually petting a dog LOL! It was pretty amazing. She even picked out a name, "DeeOhGee". It's actually the long version of dog spelled out LOLOL. (D-O-G). Other suggested names were 'Thor', 'Cobra', and 'Rocky'.

You made a smart choice going with a dog that had a personality that suited you. Congratulations !
