Thanks everyone for the comments. We dropped him off today for the sonogram. Since all his bloodwork and chest xrays are totally normal, I am very hopeful that it has not spread, and we will be able to do the surgery. If it has spread we will make his life the best it can be for whatever time he has left.

    Re: Devastated...

Prayers and best wishes for you and your dog. Lost our pit girl a few years back to cancer. My daughter raised her with a bottle as when she came to us she didn't even have her eyes open yet. She was about same age as yours when we found out but with some treatment we actually go probably a good year of quality time for her. Yours sounds lie it could be a much better outcome with treatment and I sure hope the best for you guys.

We got some wonderful news today-- he is cancer free inside, so the surgery can go and with care should be successful at clearing out the growth. Please keep the positive thoughts coming-- it is helping! The mass actually looks much better today, and seems smaller.

We had a beloved golden retriever that was diagnosed with breast cancer. We had a mastectomy done on the affected side but unfortunately it did not get all of it as it had already begun to spread. Our vet gave her a couple months to live.
My wife, in desperation, found out about a study using acai berries to treat cancer in k9 patients and had some success. If I remember correctly it was done somewhere inear Florida.
We used that as well as graviola. She ended up living another 12 months and ended up passing due to congestive heart failure. Our vet was so impressed he asked for info on our treatment.
I do not want to give false hope and I am not claiming this cured her completely but it gave us more time with her and I hope it helps do the same for you. We loved our golden, she was awesome.

Thank you. I have also heard that tumeric paste on the food helps with reducing growth of these types of cancers. We are going to try it. Anything to keep him healthy. It can't hurt. He still has a lot of years left, I think. Just two weeks ago, he was swimming in the Bay and retrieved half a tree... literally.

    Re: Devastated...

Just an update on Riley. The tumor had not spread to internal organs so we had it removed yesterday. The surgeon thinks he got all of it, and they are going to do a biopsy. So now we have Cone Head Zipper Butt living with us for a while. We go back to the vet in 2 weeks for staple removal.

You are so very, very lucky that the cancer was in an accessible place and you were able to get it all. I had to have my Boston Terrier PTS last August after a long fight with a brain tumor. Enjoy every minute of your reprieve with her, and please give her a pat from me!
