    NYC Rabbits

NYC and the five boroughs just added rabbits to their list of illegal animals. If you currently own a rabbit, you are fine. The reason for my posting is that after 23 years in Brooklyn, NY I have never seen a rabbit in the streets. Tonight, I spent over an over an hour cornering someones pet rabbit to get him to a good home. (this was a brutal process) PLEASE do not release your pets into the streets. Take them to the nearest shelter. It is late now but I will try to get a name and number for anyone who wishes to release their animal to a shelter.

It's a sad fact that common sense isn't.

This is upsetting. I have 2 rabbits and I can't imagine being so callous as to just dump them outside. Thank you for catching that rabbit.

Why would they ban rabbits? I can't seriously imagine the thought process. "Rabbits are terrifying dangers to the children!!"

Were they all Monty Python fans to the extent that they believe the killer rabbit is real?

Rabbits will take over the United States!!!

I guess their logic was that they would multiply and create feral rabbit colonies? Although I don't see how that's more of a problem than feral cats and they're still legal

Just a case of NYC being NYC... If you've ever lived there, you wouldn't need to ask.

I couldn't imagine rabbits being able to thrive in NYC, except maybe in Central Park. The people I know who keep them as pets have them on a very specific diet, take them to the vet to get their teeth done periodically, etc.

i also imagine NYC rats would quickly develop a taste for rabbit meat anyway
