    Pewter x Pewter = ??????

The pewter morph is one that gets me thinking. Since it is the combination of two codominant traits, if a pewter was breed to another pewter... .geez...how many different morphs could result in that pairing? ...pastel...super pastel...cinn pastel...super cinn pastel...pewter...super pastel pewter...super cinn pastel pewter....and SUPER PEWTER? I just wonder what a Super pewter will look like....

what would be the odds of actually producing a 'Steel' from a Pewter x Pewter breeding?

    Re: Pewter x Pewter = ??????

If cinnamon and pastel turn out to alleles (different mutations of the same gene) then it will not be possible to produce a super pastel that is even het for cinnamon or a super cinnamon that is even het for pastel much less a super pastel super cinnamon. On the up side, it would also not be possible to produce any normals in a breeding involving a pewter and pewter X pewter would produce 25% super pastel, 50% pewter, and 25% super cinnamon (not too shabby!).

If it turns out that cinnamon and pastel are mutations of different genes on different chromosomes then pewter X pewter would produce 1:16 super pastel super cinnamon, 1:16 completely normal, and more combinations in-between than I have time to figure out right now (got to get to work).

I'm actually betting on the allele thing but we should find out this year.

Just curious, besides yourself how many other people have you talked with that think this may be the case?

Have breeders that are actually working with cinnamons and pastels reached out to you to let you know that they are thinking along the same lines?

None! So if I'm right I get full credit for it! If I'm wrong, oh well... it's just a theory.

The only pewter owner I've discussed it with doesn't think it's likely but I actually first got the idea (there goes my credit) from Graziani's site when he was first promoting the idea that cinnamon PASTEL might be genetic due to similarities with Pastel Jungle. I think there is an excellent chance we'll get some answers this summer. Should we keep score?

    Homozygous spider?

    Caramel and Albino alleles?

    Pastel and Cinnamon alleles?

Het pieds bias toward belly markers?
