    "feeder" rats banned in Ohio?

I was just wondering if anyone heard anything about this. My local pet store chain (pet supplies plus) told me that as of 1-1-16 they were no longer allowed to sell live "feeder" rats; but they couldn't tell me exactly why, whether it was a corporate decision or a law (they thought it was legislation though.)

Does anyone know anything about this or know of a website where I could find out? Google has not been very helpful.

I would ask Keith at Herps Alive, which is a reptile rescue near Cleveland. If anyone would know he would.

Its probably just the store it self, i just dont see a state all a sudden passing a bill banning the sale of rats as feeders.

When I was trying to find some rats to breed for feeders a while back, I found only two places that had them... all the other pet stores claimed that they didn't carry rats anymore because people were worried about 'rat bite fever'. Which is a thing - which you can get from any rodent, and you're highly unlikely to get it at all unless you get bit and never bother to clean the bite. Frustrating.

There was concern at one time about laws that would prohibit selling ANY animal under 8 weeks old, which would mean even feeders under 8 weeks old(live). But I don't know that it passed or anything.

Localities can pass all kinds of weird stuff.

Our Pet supply plus also stopped selling "live" feeders. It's a decision from their corporate office, not a ban. Or at least not here in IL.

The pets supplies plus in PA isn't carrying rats at all and said soon they will not be able to sell rabbits either. When I asked I was told a law was being passed to prevent the sale of rats and soon rabbits, it had to do with peta. I know a few months back the company that supplied the area with feeders and small animals got busted for poor care. So I don't know what is really going on but I really need a very small live rat, or female rat. I guess I'll be calling pet stores in the area to see what I can find.
