Ok, so i'm about to add 4 snakes to my whole collection..........which gives me a total of 5 (some collection eh?)

Going to the pet store and buying mice/rats is going to get wwwwaaaayyyy out of control on cost. SO....it's time to start looking into buying rats and breeding them.

i will be keeping everything in my room. and i don't want my room to start smelling like a pet store. i'm sure i'll spend more time cleaning up after rats and their nasty mess than i will spend with my snake...but it will cut down on cost a great deal. So, for everyone who does breed their own rats/mice, what recommendations do you have to keep the nasty smell to a minimum?

is the smell really that bad?

Have you thought about purchasing F/T rodents in bulk? May save you some time & trouble in the long run. Just a thought.

i had a bad experiance with f/t here recently

i went and bought about 10 frozen rats...and when i thawed one out to feed my guy, i dangled it in front of him (and he was completely NOT interested) and then the tail broke off....freaked me out...and then it started to stink...it was the worst smell i've ever smelled in my life...i prefer pre killed

Where did you buy them from? Sounds like they weren't very good quality, may want to try again but buy from somewhere else.

    .................................................petco
    well thats probobly why.....

I would just order from a reputable place like rodent pro.

will you be keeping the rats and snakes in the same room ? if so i dont think breeding rats (enough to feed 5 snakes) in the room where you keep your snakes would be such a good idea, even with once a week cleaning it still might smell.

Rats are much less stinky than mice. With a once a week cleaning, they are not offensive smelling at all.. to me at least.

One pair of rats can produce anywhere from 10-20 babies every month. You may be surprised how many snakes one pair can feed.
