Mites ? Or something else ?

I just recently got my BP out of his tank and noticed some type of spotty things on his belly. I thought it was very strange. I kinda thought about mites when I saw it so looked up some images to see, but I don't think that's what it is. I noticed the color of all of it was a reddish brown, which is what his substrate is (Zoo-Med Repti Bark, just recently switched him to it in October). And if it is from his substrate should I switch it or not use that type of substrate ? Is that normal for it to happen ? Or could this be something else ? Just curious for any information because I haven't noticed that until now since switching him to it.
    Thanks !!

could be mites but I would think they would be all over not just on his belly
Im thinking something is scraping his belly scales
but I am no vet and could be very wrong in this case

Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.

Looks like dirt/dust from the ReptiBark. Lightly spray a paper towel with water to make it damp and wipe your snake off. If the spots on the paper towel move, your snake has mites.

Mites are very small black little circles. Those do not look like mites to me.

I'm not familiar with snake mites, and hope to not change that, other than the google image search I just did! However, it looks like small fissures in the scales, in the enlarged view, with reddish-brown staining in them. Not like any mites I've ever seen.

Re: Mites ? Or something else ?

If it is bedding it should wipe off with a little moisture and a paper towel, sometimes my snakes get their bedding stuck to their belly scales and it's not a big deal as long as it doesn't cause an infection, which hasn't happened to me

Doesn't look like mites at all. From what I could tell by zooming in is it might be early signs of scale rot.

How often do you clean his enclosure and how high is the humidity?

Thanks for the info guys ! I tried wiping him with a wet paper towel and nothing came off. I got him to the vet today and the doctors said it was Sepsis (Septicemia). I have medicine for him now and he will go back in a week for a follow up.
