My python is going into shed and cranky--should I skip feeding this week?
So, I noticed it a week ago--the blueish eyes, the pinkish belly--that my ball python is going into shed. I wasn't sure until he's spent the last week balled up in one spot and when I took him out on Tuesday his eyes were very blue and skin very rough. I have been waiting for him to shed but it hasn't happened yet. I tried to pick him up on Friday but he hissed at me (he has never done this before and is usually very social).
Normally I feed him on Sunday nights, but I fear he cannot even see at this point. Should I go on with the feeding or hold off until next week?

MHO Offer it up to him if he takes then good just ensure your humidity is up to get a good shed. If not then he'll be fine another week.

If you feed live I would not do it especially while he is in shed and partially blind.

i agree, try to feed him. I heard if snakes feed during sheds, it's a good sign that your husbandry is spot on. also remember that while sight is important, BP's also use their heat pits to locate prey. so make sure your mouse is all the way warm if u are feeding frozen/thawed.

Except for babies, because they're voracious and shed constantly, I don't bother thawing feeders for BP's that are in shed. They can wait a week.

He's an excellent eater, and I feed frozen, but I definitely can't decide at this point because I feed in a different container and don't know If I want to move him right now. Poor guy, he seems miserable . I have upped the humidity to 65% for the week, and am hoping he will shed soon. I miss taking him out!

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I wait for my girl to finish her shedding (she stays in her hide and doesn't appear to move at all - takes her pretty much a whole week to complete it!), give her a day to get back to normal (and me time to clean up the aftermath), and then I feed her.
