    Ambush Feed

    ***picture heavy post***

it’s been awhile since i posted my baby boy mojave bp Fiyero. he’s doing great, well above 200grams now. he’s shy and leaves his warm hide only a few times a week that i’ve noticed. he’s also a finicky eater, sometimes accepting f/t, sometimes turning the other way, zero interest. i feed him first and if he refuses f/t, Elphaba happily gets his reject f/t meal and Fiyero gets live the next day.

he currently lives in a tank with a lot of clutter. i feed him in tub b/c there’s just too many hides, plants, etc. for a mouse to get into that would prolong his feeding/hunt. anyway last night, he ambushed his live prey in tub. i thought it was really cool and i had my phone/camera handy. check out his sneaky feed.

imma hide... ...and be all sneaky.

    lay and wait...

    ...waiting.

    bam!

    all wrapped up.

stop taking pix, can't u see that i'm eating ... yum!

yawn. (he’s turned the other way, but he's actually re-adjusting his jaw)

    imma hide again. Shy... ...buh-bye

ok, nevermind. put me back in my cage.
    RIP Mamba

    Fun pictures, ambushes are cool.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Haha, cool! It's crazy how they get right up into the rats face sometimes before they strike, like they are having a staring contest or something. I always worry that's the moment the rat will go after the snake, but it always turns away and that's when they strike. So far, anyways. Good luck with the live to f/t! One day I'll get there with my boa.

I love the goofy grin pics where the snake still has a foot and length of tail sticking out of its mouth.

That made me laugh quietly LOL. He definitely thinks he is the most cunning and stealthy predator, hiding under paper towels. Such danger.

Lol nice. My favorite ambush was when Orochimaru went in one of the eye sockets of the skull and came out through the top of it to strike.

Awww, I love this!! He's so cute! Its amazing how captive snakes have all their inbred genes, ready to go instincts! I can always tell when Louie wants to eat cus he'll kind of do the same thing but in his house, he'll lay all hidden under the shadows of his leaves and branches with just his snoot peeking out like he's in ambush! So I know he's ready for dinner 'cus he's on the look out for a tasty rat supper. I love the picture of your snake with his dinner going down, looks like he's grinning! He's got such bright eyes. Pretty baby!

yeah, i get nervous when they get too close and it becomes that staring contest. Fiyero was actually bit on the head during one of his first feeds. totes my fault. i gave him a too big of a mouse, so he was punching above his weight class. here's some pix.

the mouse was strong. it kicked and moved him around the tub. he still killed and ate the mouse tho. he healed nicely and the mark came off during his shed and not noticeable at all now. but it hasn't scared him at all, he's still a killer when it comes to live prey.
