Beauties.
I'm really drawn to these types.

Yesterday, I ran into a site showing Bogertophis subocularis, the Transpecos Ratsnake. There is also a short Orry Martin video of one in the wild on Youtube. The natural range includes southern NM, where I live. ...something to keep an eye out for. This guy looks a lot like the pits, so I was searching around to find out why they don't share the same genus.

I did not succeed, but did run into a blog by a Frank Thayer. Quite good, and bookmarked for further reading. One thing he had a few entries down, was an amazing looking Russian Ratsnake, Elaphae schranki (old designation??). Maybe it was an artifact of the photograph or my monitor, but the body was a deep dark blue, with bronzy irregular slanted rings. Gorgeous.

I've been drawn to pituophis for many year now and the love never fades

Subocs are an interesting species to think about and I'm guessing they share natural range with some pituophis species. My lineaticollis remind me of giant subocs in some ways.

Those crazy T+ annectens I hatched last week are just mind blowing and to be honest I'm trying to work out just what they are. Their eyes are just plain amazing and unlike any I've ever encountered before.

Of all the colubrids Pituophis seem to be the least kept it seems, but hey that's never bothered me in the past
