Will a black light heat lamp disturb my BP at night? My mom keeps our house so cold, that her ambient temps on the cool side get waaay too cold. I put her cage next to the radiator, and that still wasn't enough, so I put an incandescent black lightbulb in a hood and put it over her tank in the middle, but slightly towards the cool side. If it will disturb her, how else can I raise her ambient temps?

The light is fine assuming your humidity and temps are correct. I use a black light to help heat my boa enclosure at the moment.

Are you talking about one made for herps or one you find at a regular store?

For my BP is one made for herps, the one I'm using on my sandboa is one from the store.

Neither black lights nor infrared lights should disturb a BP. We use infrareds whenever we need supplemental heat.

Ok very good. Is a nighttime temp drop really important? If it is, I could put a second white light lamp on there, and turn that off at night.

Temps shouldn't go below 75 degrees F right? Is there a temp it shouldn't go above?

I've never used a nighttime drop. At the shop I work at, the reptile room never drops below 78 degrees. So, in my personal experience, I'd say NO its not important. Focus more on not OVERheating, that can be much more problematic. I use a single night bulb 24/7, easier and cheaper than 2 lamps and a timer.

Ok cool. Come to think of it, I don't really know if there's another electrical outlet there anyway. :? The plague of the outlets. I swear I'll run out of those before I run out of snakes I want to have.

Another semi-related question.. will music bother the snakes? I know they can't hear, but would the vibrations bother them? Shelby is right by my stereo now, and I don't by any means blast it, but would it bother her?

I don't think music would bother them any more than the vibration of your footsteps as you walk by. As long as they feel safe and secure in their hide, they'll be alright.

heres a link to the bulb i swear by: http://www.zoomed.com/html/infrared_heat_lamp.php
