Okay, so I've figured out that all I want for Christmas is some way to heat what will soon be Eleanor's new cage. It's made out of 3/4" plywood, and I'm still not sure what to do about heating it... here are my options -

UTH under the cage w/ holes drilled above it to let the heat in and plexi on top to keep substrate in (would like to avoid drilling holes in the floor if at all possible...)

UTH inside cage, under the substrate (sketchy...?)

    Heat lamps (no humidity...)

Heat tape (still not sure how this would work in a wooden cage...)

    Heat panels (no belly heat?)

What do you guys think would be my best option? Any other ideas? I'm leaning towards a heat panel... any and all responses are greatly appreciated!

Kinda along your lines. I'm not too sure if they've reached a consensus as of yet, but i am interested in this one as well

If I had to do it, I'd go with radiant heat panels (I like pro-products, but there are a ton out there now).

I think any kind of belly heat/heat tape and there would be a safety issue. Under the cage it would be compressed which is dangerous and inside the cage there is no way to keep the snake off of it. And I just hate heating with bulbs and CHE's (personal preference)

Radiant heat panels are cool because they actually heat the surface of items in the cage (floor, hide box, etc) causing a sort of "faux" belly heat. I've used them before in neodesha and homemade wooden cages and they worked great.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks guys! If I'd found that thread sooner I probably wouldn't have posted this... ah well, lol. I think I'm gonna be asking Santa for a heat panel what size would be good for a cage that's 40x20x20?

From pro-products? Give Bob Pound a call and talk with him about it. He'll help figure out what size will work best so that you don't end up buying (and spending more money) than you need.
