I am going to get a thermostat from beanfarm, and I hear people talking about rheostats, what are they? Are they better than thermostats? The product I am going to buy is the Alife Reptile Electronic Temperature Controller. Will this work?Or do I need a dimmer?

Rheostats are dimmers. Nothing more. If you are asking which I would use, I would go with the thermostat. And the Alife is a pretty decent consumer grade thermostat. I have 4 of them that I use on my Leo enclosures and I use another on my Ball/Leo hatchling rack. On my individual Ball enclosures I use the modified Rancos that they sell at Boaphile.

If you can afford it, go with the thermostat .... it's nice because you can set it and forget it. Rheostats are the same thing as the lamp dimmers you can get in home depot, but unlike thermostats, you have to adjust them as the temps around the cage get warmer or cooler.

Is there any way to attach a probe to a thermostat to keep the "belly heat" correct in a hide?

The thermostats come with a probe. Just put the probe in the hide if that's where you want to maintain the temperature.

I meant attach a probe to a normal house thermostat, sorry I guess I should've been more specific. It's 2:30 am and i'm not thinking quite clear. I guess thats a sign that it's time for bed!
