Unfortunately that seems about the norm, it makes me quite upset seeing people do that to their animals. We have a responsibility as being the thing they depend on to properly care for our animals.

I'm not sure how old or how big your boa is, but it should be eating prey items roughly the size of her girth without leaving a large bulge. If she's just a baby, I would stick to mouse hoppers over rat pinks because of the points I mentioned above. I would move up once the next size up is small enough to leave just a small bulge, it's ok for the prey not to leave any bulge while you wait to move up.

Yeah, she just came into this world on July 16th, so she's fresh still. I couldn't possibly even imagine her taking down a pup, honestly. So small... you can just barely see where the pinkie is when she's eaten.

I'll take your advice, I'll finish off the couple pinkies in the freezer and then switch to mouse hoppers.

Yeah rat pups are huge for a baby...they're roughly the same size as an adult mouse or a small jumbo on the bigger end. She might be able to physically get one down depending on how large she is (some babies are born really tiny) but that doesn't mean she should be eating them. :/

It's all about getting big fast for some people, unfortunately.

Last time I weighed Nymeria she was 363 grams, but that was a month or more ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's hit or nearly hit 400 by now. Like Tirel, I plan on extending the time between her feedings to get her ready to be fasted next winter. I've gone ahead and bumped her to weaned rats with the size she's gained and in preparation for the winter feedings. She's been getting kinda chubby on the jumbo mice, so hopefully this streamlines her body a bit.

I need to weigh her because she took a poop a few days ago, but here's some photos from the other night.

She's a nice thick girl, I think she may even have more girth than Tirel. And that's with her considerably more conservative feeding from a much younger age. Even though she's significantly shorter than Tirel atm, I'm thinking with her girth she may either eventually be a long adult or a nice stout girl. Either way she may have the size to give me some decent litters.

I can't get over how orange she is! The colours are so dark and vibrant, whereas my girl is all yellow and light. She's lovely.

Thanks! I can see why her breeder wanted her as a holdback, she's lost a bit of her vibrance but is still quite bright. Kinda sad her coralling isn't going anywhere though it's actually toned down in the last few sheds. :/

I love how her head spear almost looks burnt on her with the way it's fuzzy around the edges, and her head has a bunch of weird tones to it that I can't capture easily on the camera (mostly because she doesn't sit still).

Well Nymeria has yet to grow any in length, she's been 3' even for about 4 months now, about as long as she's been on jumbo mice. I recently put her on weaned rats the feeding before last, and she appears to have grown slightly but I haven't officially measured her so I'm just going to say she's 3' even for now. She has continued to gain weight, but without significant length growth there's been no sheds. She was 418 last I weighed her iirc, I didn't record it because she still had a weaned rat in her but once she defecates I'll re-weigh her.

She's doing quite well on the monthly feedings so far, and should go back to 14 days sometime in January or February, and then once she turns 2 years in June I'll move her onto 3 weeks.

I had her out the day before, and she's looking more and more like a proper boa.
