Tegu or savannah monitor? Epic question
Hey All,
As I said in previous posts, I have had Argentine B&W Tegus in the past, and am looking to get back into the large lizard game. After spending some time with a friend's savvy, I am now considering going with one of those. Im interested if anybody currently owns both, and can compare and contrast some experiences of the two.

I have owned both! In my experience, they are very, very, similar.
My first savannah monitor i tong fed, and even clicker trained at one point, and got it to know me very well and has been a joy to keep. (Still have)
My second sav i got as an adult to form a breeding pair (so far, very successful). But because of this, it got him as an adult and have not been able to get him to know me as well, so hes a complete jerk wad. (Still have)
About 2 years ago, i got an argentine b/w tegu from a friend and it was not in the best of conditions. I tried my hardest to get it used to me, but it was just being uncooperative in general so i had to get rid of it.
About a year later i purchased a few month old tegu. It was a complete jerk wad. It was very healthy and grew more than a foot in less than a year, but i ended up selling it to focus on my monitors.
In all honesty, go with which ever one you think looks cooler, but make sure you give the proper care for either. And make sure you have the time to spend with them so they dont end up as evil beasts.

Both have the same cage size requirements, both have similar care the difference I see is that Tegus need UVB and higher humidity. So I would say go with what you will be passionate about, which one will you be looking forward to interacting with daily.

Agreed with the uvb thing. But savs need high humidity too, not as much above ground(60%) but underground nearing 100%. Though both burrow like crazy.
