What does bowl wrapping mean?
I read that females bowl wrap when they're developing follicles. Do they just do it for other reasons as well? Developing follicles is something they do regardless to whether they're carrying sperm or not, correct?
Our big 2500g girl laid back in December and has been bowl wrapping really tight for the past week. She shouldn't be digesting as she's only eaten one meal in the past two months. We haven't bred her since before she laid.

Re: What does bowl wrapping mean?
Are you sure your temps are fine? They wrap to cool down whether it be for follicle building or just lowering their own body temp for comfort. If she laid in December, (7 months ago) she could be starting to rebuild follicles again.

Re: What does bowl wrapping mean?
She's probably building or maybe even gravid from retained sperm from her last pairing. That phenomena is known as " amphogenia retardata". That's why she hasn't been feeding.

Well I hope she's building and not gravid! We got a Super Enchi Lesser Spider we're shipping in soon for her instead of her last Queen Bee mate.
I guess she has been feeding the last couple months, I've just knocked it down to once a month because I was concerned we were over feeding her. She would constrict and then not eat up to three times before she finally would eat it.
Temps are good, 90 on hot side 80 on cold side. Just checked with temp gun.

It could be nothing, I have males that occasionally bowl wrap and/or soak. I have two males that do it all the time.

It's a possibility about being gravid and / or building but don't stop your plans to pair her with said male. Females get bred by several different males all the time. Time will tell if she has offspring that was from last years sperm which is very possible.

You may want to make sure yours are actually males. Not typical behavior for a male at all, especially if your Temps are on point. If this behavior is happening often, I'd get "him" rechecked.
