Well Anubis my baby blood python finally ate after almost a month of fasting. He was driving me bonkers. I had tried everything. I even offed a mouse for him.

Kara has been my lifeline at NERD. I purchased Anubis there and she has been holding my hand through this time of anxiety. Kara suggested finding a rat crawler to leave in their with him. Unfortunately short of breeding rats myself they were unfindable in my area. I did find some very young rats whose eyes had just opened and had pretty small teeth. Well the live did the trick although I hope he gets over his stubborness because I don't want to feed live again any time soon. I am hoping that his appetite will kick in after his big meal.

I got hyper taking pictures of him eating. The baby rat was a little large for him so I was afraid he was going to burst. He is a very fat little snake now.

Compadres, it is imperative that we crush the freedom fighters before the start of the rainy season. And remember, a shiny new donkey for whomever brings me the head of Colonel Montoya.

I have to give the credit of nice coloring to Kara at NERD. She breeds some darn pretty blood pythons up there in Yankee town.

As for temperament, I must say that Anubis is a very laid back snake. He has never shown any of the young blood python attitude and nippiness with me. I don't know if it was lots of good handling at NERD from a young age or just plain luck or maybe a little of both.

His temperament is actually better than my ball python. Maybe it is the fact that he is male and doesn't have the stress of PMS that us females have to deal with to make him grumpy

I hope he is as red as Kara's RojoLoco someday. Although, I am sure if she thought he would get that red she would never have let him go to me

LOL...don't rub the Yankee part in TOO much...I'm from Texas & haven't forgotten it.

Anubis has always been a bit laid back. Just a sweetheart to deal with, which probably leads to his lack of an aggressive feeding response.

I probably wouldn't have let him go, period. Rojo Loco is a one-of-a-kind at the moment, at least until I figure out how to make more of him. I think Anubis is going to be a classic beauty...all that extra white near his tail is just icing on the cake. He's a gorgeous, gorgeous snake & it's going to be fun watching him grow up. Make sure you keep us all updated with pics!!!!!

Good for you & your tenacity, BTW. I hope this is as frustrating as he ever gets for you. Thank you for being so great to communicate with & having a genuine concern for your critters!

    K
