    Ambient heat? Temps okay?

    Hi guys.

I set up my tub yesterday (28qt) and I'm wondering if my temps are okay?

The UTH takes up the whole bottom of the tub. The temp right in the centre of the UTH is 85-86 and the ambient heat is 80-81. Humidity is 50-55%. It's been consistent with these numbers since I set it up.

Are these temps okay? I don't have a hot spot and I'm unsure how to set one up since the UTH covers the whole bottom lengthwise.

The uth is the hotspot. Those numbers are fine but most that provide a hotspot keep it around 88-90 for balls.

You certainly can keep them where they are though many people provide only ambient heat with great success.

I always like to have some of the enclosure not on the heat mat just in case it develops problems.

I would say no more than half should be heated but, in that half the temp inside the hide should be 92f if you can manage it.

I am with Del here. The UTH should not cover the whole bottom. Personally i keep my royals cooler than 92 I use 90 at the hottest an often smaller snakes I keep closer to 88. My ambients I hold around 80-84 and humidity I keep at 55%RH @ 83ºF.

I have an ultratherm coming that will only cover half(it's an 11x11), but until then I'm stuck with this one. Will it be okay with half the UTH sticking out and not attached to anything?

    Re: Ambient heat? Temps okay?

As long as it is being controlled by something then yeah - I have done it for short periods in the past.
