well i got on here looking for info about my pets and this is pretty cool.....am i correct in assuming that all kings freak out when you try to handle them while they're young???.....my cali 50/50 is very active and when you try to pick him/her (haven't had it probed yet) up it pees/poops/musks whichever it is and is not afraid to drop out of my hands to try to get away.....hopefully this will get better with age

Certainly normal for a Cal King baby. My little girl was something when I first got her. It does get better with age and with regular handling sessions. Now I can pick my girl up (as long as she knows I'm there and I don't surprise her) no problem.

Both of ours are the same way. They were born Aug. 2nd, so they are still very young. They too will try to 'jump' out of our hands and if startled will musk/pee/poop. However, with regular short session handling the female has already gotten much better (still have to be careful not to startle her w/sudden movements) and the male is coming along as well. From what I've read/heard, they do calm down a bit w/age.

thanks for the welcomes and replies....i think we've gotten over the messy part of the handling....it no longer poops on me but still is a little devil to catch and hold.....my wife won't mess with it because it strikes at her and startles her......i just grab it and it's finally getting used to me so we'll see what time may bring.....i'm thinking of getting rid of my gecko cause he's a tempermental little bastard that we can't do anything with except watch it cling to wall of the tank.....saw a few rose boas at the pet store....the wife is all for getting one so i may try that

What kind of gecko? Some animals are just better left as display animals at times. Rosy boas are great snakes! What's in your herp collection right now?

well.....i have a ball python, a cali 50/50 king, a corn, giant day gecko, and now 2 ribbons that have quickly become my favorites

Yeah, you can't handle day geckos. They are far to nervous and jumpy for handleing. Also they tend to have rather fragile skin, which is another reason why it's advised that you NOT handle them.
