I love my bp and would like to get another python species. I'm looking for something about the same girth as a bp, no smaller but no longer than 6-8 feet...and of course something not too difficult to acquire in the pet trade. I've seen very few adult snakes in person, so I'm unable to determine how thick/long many species get as adults. I'm open to any suggestions!
I'd love another bp - but I would really love a species less prone to go off feed. I was thinking of a female bp, but was told they are just as likely to go off feed as males are.
Ball Python, Bredl's Carpet Python, Kenyan Sand Boa, Saharan Sand Boa
Mexican Black King, California King, Snow Corn, Okeetee Corn, Everglades Ratsnake
Blue Tongued Skinks: Irian Jaya (2), Indonesian, Northern, Tanimbar, Eastern, Kei, Merauke
Crested Gecko

most pythons under 8 ft are not likely to get as girthy as bp's. Ive been getting interesting in carpets myself, but they are slim snakes.
You may want to check into bloods.

I'd love a Jaguar Carpet - but if I remember correctly they're a bit pricey. I do like the look of Irian Jaya Carpets and Jungles, but wish they were a bit thicker.
As far as bloods...they look like they eat larger prey (as adults) than I want to get into - at least I'm assuming.
I'd kind of like something that would eat the same size off as my bp - that way his food won't go to waste when he decides to be stubborn and not eat. I'm definitely open to any suggestions (even if not a python).

When you say the same girth do you mean proportionally? Or in a non-relative way? To get as girthy as a ball (in proportion to length) you'd almost HAVE to go the blood route. A nice coastal or jungle carpet might be nice - though keep in mind for either of those the setup might have to have more height. Any route you go you'll hit a point with something longer that the uneaten leftovers the BP won't take won't quite fill up the larger snake. You planning on hitting any shows anytime soon?

Oh how I'd love a Woma (bit too pricey though)!
I'll be at the NARBC show in Chicago this Saturday. I plan on getting an Okeetee Corn from Kathy Love....and I'll try to be good and not get anything else....
Sorry, when I say girth I'm referring to how thick they get (definitely would love something as thick as a bp, but certainly not too much thinner).
Greenman - what is that a pic of?
What size prey do adult bloods eat? I've seen some thick bloods that looked like they could eat adult guinea pigs! I guess even if I went with a blood, I could give it my bps leftovers (even if they are smaller) and just feed it multiples to make up the difference? I think I"ll post over on the blood forum as well.
