    Cage Lid

I am in the process of coverting my old 56 gallon column aquarium into a terrarium for a carpet python, at least until I need to upgrade it. My only problem is I do not know what to do about finding a secure lid. The dimensions of the tank are 30Lx18Wx24H. Any suggestions?

Does the aquarium have a plastic lip or anthing around it that you could attach hinges to?

We made tops for a 125 gallon aquarium out of plexiglass. Cut it to to fit, drill some ventilation holes, and then use mirror mounting clips attached to the plastic top to hold the plexiglass in place.
Mirror mounting clip: http://www.lowes.com/pd_197434-405-5...ductId=1056915 - just don't screw them down tightly so you can rotate them out of the way when you want to lift off the top.

They retain humidity much better than the mesh lids.

How would I use a heat lamp in this instance or would an UTH be sufficient enough?

We used two large UTH's, one set so the surface temp on the cool side is at 80*F and the other at 90*F. The heat lamp was suspended over the warm side from a hanger on the back of the tank so the bottom of the lamp was about an inch above the plexi.
