    Finally...

After owning Peter for just over 4 months I finally managed to get him to strike and feed! I am over the moon.

This moment made me so happy. After wiggling tge rat infront of him for 5 minutes he finally took it. He had lost about 100g over this 4 months, fingers crossed this is the start of him feeding regularly!

    Re: Finally...

Thanks you lot. Through the last 4 months you have stopped me worrying about him not eating. That day was the first day he seemed interested in the rat. Just as I went to take it out he struck it. Right on the head. Didn't coil it but just ate it.

Very good feeling, I hope he enjoyed it and will carry on eating!

Good job! He's a good looking boy. How have you been feeding him? It looks like you're keeping him in a glass tank. What I used to do with Sir Giles (also a bp in a glass tank) was to thaw out his ft rats in a plastic bowl set up under a heat lamp, which was set up in a milk crate on the table in front of his tank. It took a while to thaw and warm the food up, but by the time it was ready he was roaming the cage looking for it. I didn't think about it until later, but I bet this had the same effect of barbequing a nice juicy burger in the back yard, it stunk up the whole room! Afterwards I dangled the rat in front of him with tongs. He never missed a feeding, and half the time he was crawling up the wall waiting for me to open the tank.

That is similar to what I do. I let the rat defrost over the day in the room and then heat it up with a hair drier for a few minutes prior to feeding. He had never seemed interested in feeding at all, this time I saw him staring at the rat and smelling him. As I said, it took a while before he actually git the courage to strike it. Made my day when he did.
