Ball Python won't use warm hide after meal?

I've had my bp for 8 months and he's usually good about going wherever he needs to go and when.

My temperatures are good, 75-77 cold side and 90 for warm. His humidity is 60-70. His hides are exactly identical and switching them didn't change anything.

He was fed on Monday, a small rat which is his usual. He hasn't been in the warm hide for about three weeks now. He's always cold to the touch, but still active.

He will sit in the middle for a few minutes or go on top of the warm hide which is below the rhp but he won't ever go in it.

I've checked his temps with a temp gun and several probes and an accurite and his thermostat is working fine.

So I'm guessing he just doesn't need the belly heat right now? He's never done this before and that's the only reason I'm worried. He did miss his first meal two weeks ago but eats normal since.

Our job is to provide the thermal gradient, their job is to decide when and how to use it. If you're providing suitable temps then trust the snake to do what it wants.

Just because you haven't seen the snake bask doesn't mean it hasn't

My snake can't make up her mind lately. All husbandry is the same with no changes, but for the past few days she moves from cool side to warm side about every hour!

I'd suggest bumping you cool side temp a little to at least. 78. I like to keep mine between 80-82 But like Cry said, our job is to provide the right temps. They'll do what they feel like.

Thanks. I did bump it to at least 78, it sometimes gets a little warmer.

He's still on the cold side, but I guess he's fine there. Thanks!
