Snake Dancing Video
Some of you may know that I'm a professional belly dancer and my snakes work with me. I had a request for a video, here's one from a year ago. I'm dancing a tribal fusion improv piece with a live band...and my reduced pattern normal BP, Persephone.
She's quite the ham lol!

I'll admit I was a little apprehensive when I was reading your post, but after watching the video I am at ease . You seemed so gentle with your snake, it was lovely.
I don't know much (or anything) about belly dancing but that was super interesting! Thank you for sharing.

Re: Snake Dancing Video
Thanks!
Yes, I always try to be aware of what my snake is doing and I adjust to them. Also, they don't perform while in a shed, being medicated for an illness or injury, after eating, or when it's ridiculously cold outside...and they are put on a reduced schedule when they are on a feeding strike. I use my time after performances to let people meet my snakes and I answer questions and dispel myths about snakes. It's a great opportunity to re-educate people and my girls are so well socialized that it really makes for a positive thing.
I take snake dancing pretty seriously and am insured and include clauses in my contracts to protect my snakes. I actually write for a national belly dance magazine and I did an article a while back on snake dancing (with an emphasis on it being a living creature...ie a big responsibility).

That was neat to watch. I've never seen belly dancing before. Beautiful and very talented and it's so great you're helping the herp community by helping to educate people. Great job and keep it up!

Thanks for posting, that was great. I've got a good friend who does reptile education who uses belly dancers in his shows. For some reason the twin cities has a large belly dancing interest group, in a place where we have snow 6 months out of the year... Go figure. anyway, I've watched quite a few belly dancing performances and I enjoyed yours a lot. I'm no kind of expert but your show looked more authentic then many others I've seen.
His dancers often use adult macklotts pythons. (medium sized arboreal python with a very sleek/smooth/iridescent look) The babies can be very nippy but once they're adults they calm right down and behave themselves well.

Re: Snake Dancing Video
Thanks! I'll check his site out! Yeah we have a pretty big BD community here in Columbus...again crappy weather for the costuming. For six months of the year I cuss getting ready for gigs lol! But I really do love my job and actually just found out that the main newspaper in town might be doing a story on me and my snakes! So I'm pretty stoked!
