animal plastics heating question

I have some cages coming from animal plastics and Ill be ordering pro heat radiant heaters for them. The guy from Pro Heat said i wouldnt need any supplemental heating over the radiant heaters. My question is how would I set up the heat gradient? I was going to supplement the hot side with flex watt heat tape (which I already have), but it would be pretty cool if I didnt need it. Any thoughts?

All you would need to do is position the RHP over the hot side of the cage, just like you would with a heat lamp.

Ambient room temp may play a part in whether additional heating is necessary...

Like sho220 mentioned, ambient room temp does play a role in additional heating. Also, it depends what kind of enclosure you're working with and what wattage and how many or how big the heat panels you're using.

For example, I have an AP T12 (48x24x24). I have it split in half and each side has a RHP (one Pro Heat and one Reptile Basics) providing ambient temp. Then I have 12x24 heat tape in the middle providing a hot spot or belly heat for both sides. My whole setup is controlled by a herpstat 4.

Thankfully, with my setup now I don't have to worry about my room ambient temps. But before i split the T12, when I only had one RHP, with ambient room temps dropping as low as 65 in the winter, my T12 droped to 70 a couple of times.

Overall, there's a lot of factors invlolved so you should consider them all and adjust accordingly.

I havent needed any additional heat beyond the RHP in my pvc enclosures. Like everyone else said ambient air temp is a factor in that though. My herp room never got below 70 this winter and everything was fine.

Everyones situation is different, but it seems to me like having flexwatt and a RHP on the same side of a cage would be massive overkill
