    Baby chickens arrived!

Well, we ended up going with a Ideal hatchery and ended up with some very healthy looking birds! We received our order of pullets which is 3 black australorps, 3 buff orpingtons, 3 easter eggers/ameraucana. Plus, they threw in what looks like 8 rhode island reds cockerels. That's 8 yummy dinners unless one ends up female and we like her

They are all perky, eating, drinking and walking around

Great choices! I love all of those breeds. Except the RIR. They are little buttholes. Update this thread as the little stinkers grow! Love me some chickens!

Lol I've heard that they are stinkers! I was also told they can be pretty mean, especially the boys, from a couple of my friends.

Either way, we are super happy, this is our first time raising chickens

    Re: Baby chickens arrived!

Chickens have so much personality! All the Amerucaunas we ever had were so goofy and quirky. Like if you bent over, we had one that would jump on your back. Another, my daughter sat down with on the porch swing, and rocked the damn bird to sleep! (Somewhere I have a picture) Our Orps were super sweet.

Once they are big enough, give them grapes! That is the funniest/best thing ever to watch. They freak out over grapes, and it turns into a game of keep away, lol.

We had a RIR cross, I forget what it was star something or other or sex link maybe? It was mean as heck. Needless to say, it didn't last long...

This one is a DIVA! Look at that eye makeup.
Oh and the precious egg tooth!! Squee!!

I am flying the white flag. I surrender to the cuteness. I want some! Would anyone just let me rotate through some chicks until they start getting their feathers? I think that would be best.

Reds are great chickens...kept and raised them for almost 10 years, along with several other breeds here and there, and they were always my best all around hens.

Well, as far as keepers go, we'll see how sexing goes. I'd be willing to test a red if we get a pullet out of them

And lol @ aldebono- they are too cute. I'm loving those easter eggers faces! The cute stage will probably wear off a little though once they prove to be crazy poop machines :p
