Amazon tree boa pictures

My lovely lady was kind enough to take some pictures the other day when I was handling my amazons, so I figured I'd post some updated pictures of them. Enjoy!

First is my big female multicolored orange, Mira--she's around 850 grams or so.




Here she is popping out of her old skin in her old enclosure:




Her new enclosure:






Last is my garden phase male (Griff) sitting at around 500 grams. He has a nice purple hue to him in the light.











To anyone considering getting an ATB, do it! They are awesome snakes. Both of mine are relatively placid--I have removable perches so I never need to physically remove them from a fixed perch, but I don't handle them often at all, maybe once a month tops. They get a little flighty/squirmy if their tails aren't wrapped around you when handling, but other than that they're loads of fun!

In my opinion and experience, their reputation is overrated. I used to get bit all the time by Mira, but haven't been bit while removing them since using the completely removable perches. I used to be timid unless I was wearing a sweatshirt, but she hasn't even struck in about 2 years, and Griff has only struck once in the 6 months or so I've had him. I'm super excited to start to pair them up and get a bunch of nippy little worms though!

Thanks! That's a radiant heat panel. Best way to heat the arboreal enclosures without sucking up the humidity. I use a lamp though for Griff and it works fine just requires more misting.

That's what I thought it was but didn't know you can use them in tubs. Awesome! I may have to try the same thing.

Beautiful looking animals. I've only ever seen them emaciated at expos, very cool to see them with a full body.

Yeah the vast majority of the ones you see available are fresh imports. I also think that has a lot to do with their bad reputation for being feisty.

The RHP worked well in the tub, but the room needs to be heated as well with them. You also have to have I think 6 or 8 inches of free space below them, so my perch was basically an inch off the ground, but she did utilize it when digesting.

I also have read a lot that says they utilize ground hide boxes very regularly, which has been the case with Mira as I have had her in larger enclosures. When she was in an 18"x24"x24" enclosure, she was perched 100% of the time, but now spends most of her time hiding. I want to try to find some way to remedy this because I think it may be enclosure design related more than them preferring to actually seek shelter on the ground...still working though! Of course, I could just be wrong and find I need to " listen" to them more!
