Do I have to use a UTH?

If you put the waterbowl over the heating pad it should have the same effect, depending on what kind of waterbowl you have.

Plus, a bulb can tend to dry the enclosure out. If you get rid of it, your humidity will probably go up.

I use a 100w uv bulb for a thirty gallon along with a uth. Any smaller bulb and I just can't get the temps high enough year round. Now that it's summer I have the dimmer set pretty low, but when it gets cooler outside I have to crank it. A 60w would never work for me. And yeah, you should go with a uth as bp's typically spend most of the time hiding and rarely bask under a bulb.

I'm using a 60W infared in a 10 gallon, and if I don't dim it ... the temps will get to 110+ ... on top of the hides.

Yours probably don't bask because its so hot on top of the hides, try putting the probe on the hide that the bulb is over.
