ReEd or blue lights okay for cresties?

I thought I'd heard lizards can't see in the red spectrum, but wanted to double check. Would it be okay for me to use a red or blue light for nightime viewing with my cresite?

As long as they are really spectrum lights and not party bulb type lights, it will be fine. A good way to check whether a bulb you've purchased or have on hand is visible to them is to turn it on as the only light in a dark room next to or above the cage, and see if your cresties pupils are dilated or slitted. If they're dilated, the light should not bother it in the least. Party bulbs are just tinted, though, and not actually in the proper spectrum.

Thank you. I have a low wattage infrared heat lamp I was hoping I could use. I'll give your test a shot - unless you already know that bulb is okay?

Infrared should be fine as long as the coating/powder hasn't started burning off. I'd try it and use the test to double-check it, but it should be fine.

would a regular black light work? i use it for 2 of my snakes, and it doesnt seem to bother them, its not like they hide and try to get away from it, they are normally UNDER it at night
