T8 question

So I got a T8 for my boy. Everything's fine but there's a gap between the fluorescent light and the back of the tank, and he keeps crawling up in it as a hide and will get stuck. Any advice? I have a piece of styrofoam jammed in it. The kind you line the back of a tank with. But he knocks it down.
