Regulating temperature in tubs
So ive finally finished building my first rack. I got the heat tape in and hooked up to my herpstat 2 and I cant get my temps in the tubs up much at all. Im using 4in heat tape and 32qt sterlite tubs and had the herpstat set to 100 degrees to start out with and the tub measures 75 degrees on the hot end. It could be as simple as bumping up the thermostat to account for this but I dont know if im forgetting something or maybe screwed up something along the way. The ambient temp of the room its in is only 65 degrees but id have to move the rack itself to fix that and id rather not.

With a room ambient of only 65 you have less than a 10% chance of getting the correct temps inside your tubs. What you need is a heater for your room.

This.
The heat tape can only provide so much heat. You need to get room temps up.
I had tubs in a 73* and heat tape struggled to maintain temps.

It may help with a 11x12 flexwatt pad under it, but as the others said, your rooms ambient temp is going to fight you the whole time.

Re: Regulating temperature in tubs
I knew my rack would be in a 72-76 degree room so I used 12" wide THG tape in 15" long strips. This is on a 41qt rack and each piece takes up 1/3 of the floor space . This keeps my cool side in the high 70's and warm in the high 80's. You need bigger tape. Another tip would be to add a door on the front of your rack. You could also try a thick curtain to keep in the warm air. Ventilation then becomes an issue though.
